Myths about Hypnosis

Myths about HypnoBirthingHypnosis is almost certainly not what you think it is. Due largely to media dramatisation and stage hypnotism, many people mistakenly believe that hypnosis is a form of mind manipulation; a state in which a person loses all control. This is not true… in fact it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Hypnosis is a very natural state of deep physical and mental relaxation; a state where awareness levels are heightened and you feel completely in control. This subtle change of consciousness is experienced daily when we are least aware of it, such as when we are just entering sleep, or when we are engrossed in a good book.

RelaxedMany competing athletes use a state of hypnosis to programme their body and mind for success. HypnoBirthing™ teaches the use of self-hypnosis to similar effect. It helps mothers achieve the birth they want and deserve, by setting an expectation deep within the subconscious mind, that birth can and will be a wonderful, enjoyable event. When birth occurs, the body responds to this positive expectation and the mother is able to bring her baby gently into the world, without severe discomfort.

Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state for birthing. Interestingly, many animals naturally assume a trance-like state to birth their young with relative ease, and without the need for medical intervention. If they can do it, why can’t we?

And remember, HypnoBirthing™ is much, much more than hypnosis for birth. It is a complete antenatal programme that incorporates highly effective breathing techniques, deep relaxation exercises, visualisation and physical preparation, to allow you to birth your baby in a calm, comfortable manner.
