Inspirational Birth Stories – Rachel & Sam

Rachel & baby Margot just after the birth.

My husband Sam and I did our Hypnobirthing course with you in May and June of last year, and I suddenly realised that I hadn’t updated you! We had baby Margot Elizabeth in October and she is perfect, after the most wonderful birth.

If you remember we were trying for a home birth after a forceps 15 hour labour with our first. On the evening of the 11th I started having a few niggles, but went to bed. The niggles woke me up and about 1 am we ventured downstairs. I was on my birth ball and we lit candles and had the reiki gold playlist on, while I breathed through the surges, which were totally manageable. By about 5am it was apparent that nothing much was happening, so we went up to bed and slept until half 7.

We then woke up and got my daughter ready for preschool. She left the house at ten to nine, at which point things suddenly became more intense. We phoned the midwives at quarter past nine and got on the birth ball with the aromatherapy oils and reiki gold music. The first midwife arrived at ten to ten, the second at quarter past, and she was born at 10:17am, eyes wide open and as alert as can be. I birthed on the sofa in the end as there was no time for the intended birth pool and only suffered a slight graze.

It was without a doubt, the best experience. I would do it again tomorrow! I can honestly say it didn’t hurt, it was just very intense pressure. I could not have done it so perfectly without your course so thank you so so much!!
